Many companies use PDMPublisher because it can create and merge PDFs quickly and reliably compared to the standard SOLIDWORKS PDM Convert task. PDMPublisher is designed for larger publishing workflows where stability, speed, and fewer failed exports are important.
PDMPublisher is one product with one code base, available in two versions.
PDMPublisher (Task)
- Runs as a SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional task add-in
- Use it for centralized, vault-based export automation
- Best when exports should be configured by administrators and executed through the PDM task framework
PDMPublisher for SOLIDWORKS
- Runs as a SOLIDWORKS add-in
- Use it for exporting directly from the SOLIDWORKS desktop application
- Best when users need an interactive publishing workflow or when using SOLIDWORKS without PDM Professional

PDMShell (PDM Professional Only)
PDMShell is a command-line automation tool for SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional. It helps automate common vault operations such as searching files, updating data cards, running batch processes, and per \forming migration or maintenance tasks.

PDM2Excel
PDM2Excel is a task add-in for exporting SOLIDWORKS assemblies as Excel spreadsheets with thumbnails. Since the introduction of PDM2Excel’s core functionality in SOLIDWORKS PDM 2025, we are in the process of retiring this product.
